In 2010, Adobe launched Content Aware Fill, a tool that allows you to easily fill in the gaps in an image, without technical expertise. Thirteen years later, artificial intelligence functions allow license holders to generate or modify images from descriptions. Meanwhile, social networks are exploding, transforming our relationship to reality.

The work is based on real and fictional testimonies, on the relationship of individuals to images and the Internet. Content Aware Fill captures the disorder of a hyperconnected world, where the illusion of interconnectivity often masks an inner void. The abundance of online content responds to a fear of silence and stimulates our need for distraction. The artist mixes human and artificial visuals to question our relationship to these stimulations, between addiction and escape.
This work highlights the absurdity of our digital lives: a quest for connection lost in an ocean of data and disinformation. Capturing the evolution of the Internet in a single work is impossible, but the artist tries to make palpable the fragility of our link to reality, fragmented by the digital.

Biographie

Romain Causel, a visual artist based in Marseille since 2022, graduated from the Fine Arts of Nantes and holds a master's degree from the Academy of Art in Reykjavík. His work falls within the field of mixed-media visual arts, with a particular focus on site-specific installations that emerge in response to specific places and contexts. He combines sculpture and image, developing a fluid, adaptable artistic language without the constraint of a single medium. A true "handyman", he explores various materials and ideas, transgressing established norms to divert the everyday and question our relationship to what is considered normal. The absurd plays a fundamental role in his practice, challenging what is often taken for granted and opening up new perspectives on our perception of the world.
